Heritage Open Days

6 - 9 September

During Heritage Open Days visitors are allowed to access areas of the Museum which are not accessible to the general public; this gives visitors a unique insight in to an extraordinary building which was previously the Officers’ Mess of the Royal Marines. The Museum is an excellent example of architecture from the mid-Victorian period and even to this days surprises people with some of its secrets. From 6 to 9 September daily tours will start in the Mountbatten Room where details on the architecture and artwork will be given and photos from the time when the room was a functioning Mess displayed. The tour moves on to the attic space, where the mechanics which operate the candelabra in the Mountbatten Room can be seen. The tour then moves on to the cellars for a unique insight in the working Port cellars and unusual artwork on the wall.

Book on to a tour in advance to avoid disappointment and get a discounted Museum ticket.
