An explosive day out for all the whole family. A hands-on day where you can make a big bang by making rockets, firing a trebuchet or doing the field gun run. Bigger bangs will come from demonstrations of firearms old and new as well as a cannon. There will be some shed science surprises on the day too.

This exhibition showcases the outstanding work of the Royal Marines official war artist, journalists and service photographers who embedded with the units of 3 Commando Brigade on Operation HERRICK 14. Through their eyes we hope to give you an insight into how 3 Commando Brigade helped improve security for the people of Central Helmand.

Only the brave should venture to the Royal Marines Museum on Sunday 6 May as an army of Daleks will invade the Museum. Throughout the day there will be a variety of family activities, photo opportunities with Daleks and special guest appearances. Prizes for the children with the best Sci-Fi fancy dress outfit.

The Royal Marines Museum is delighted to welcome back the Royal Marines Association Concert Band for the first of two concerts in 2012 which will take place at the Museum in the grand Mountbatten Dining Room.

The Royal Marines Association Concert Band (RMACB) was formed in May 2006 with the approval of the Commandant General Royal Marines and Principal Director of Music. Many of the band members are former Royal Marines musicians who have settled in the Portsmouth/Hampshire area after completing their service.

Experience life in Afghanistan for Royal Marines.  Climb aboard a helicopter and see military vehicles such as a Jackal, Husky, Vixen, Mastiff and a quad bike. Try your hand at field cookery with rations packs. Brush up on first aid, and meet the Royal Marines recently returned from Afghanistan. Visit our recreation of a base and find out what a day in the life of a Royal Marine in Afghanistan is like.

A lecture by Ian Gardiner, who commanded a rifle company in 45 Commando Royal Marines in the Falklands War, to commemorate the 30 anniversary of the Falklands War. The lecture gives a Royal Marine’s perspective on the Falklands War and will be chaired by Major General Julian Thompson CB OBE, who was Commander of 3 Commando Brigade during the Falklands War. A book signing will follow the lecture.
