Commando Action

Be a Marine for a day and join in actual activities carried out by real Royal Marines

Royal Marines ... to your duties, quick march!

Become a Royal Marine for one day only at our hands-on family fun day.

Come and join the non stop action from 10am-5pm. An extensive visitor programme includes Laser Quest, explosive missions, zip wire abseiling and Commando challenges. Plus climb aboard a helicopter, ascent the climbing wall, cook survival food, sit on weapon mounted vehicles, interact with Royal Marines and be a part of the event.

Visitor Programme includes:

1000 onwards  Climb aboard the Sea King Helicopter

1100 – 1200 Ration Pack Cookery & Live Cooking Demonstrations

1100 - 1300 Behind Closed Doors

1200 – 1300 Find the Explosives in the Museum

1300 – 1330 Zip Wire and Arena Combat Display

1330 – 1430 Ration Pack Cookery & Live Cooking Demonstrations

1400 - 1600 Behind Closed Doors

1430 - 1500 School of Music arena performance

1500 – 1600 Find the Explosives in the Museum 

1600 – 1630 Zip Wire and Arena Combat Display

All day activities include:

1000 – 1700 Climbing Wall

1000 – 1700 Lazar Quest

1000 – 1700 Assault Course

1000 – 1700 Children’s Royal Marine Commando Challenge

1000 – 1700 Dress up and have a souvenir photo with a Marine (£10.00 per person for the photo, or 3 for £20.00)

1000 – 1700 Marines Hunt 

1000 – 1700 Paintball Raffle - your opportunity to win a paintball voucher for 10 people to go to World Class Paintball Entertainment, Delta Force. Only £2.00 per strip of raffle tickets.

1000 – 1700 Display of Hamish Burks Photos on his trip to Afghanistan 

1000 – 1700 RM Videos in Beverly Gallery

1000 – 1700  Face painting -All customers will be able to get their face painted for £2.00 per face.

Family Activities all day in the Mountbatten Hall include: Children will have the opportunity to make a: ~ Fridge  Magnet, we have the Globe and Laurel shape to be coloured in and made into fridge magnets. ~ Colouring in a Marine from different ages and the Globe and Laurel, ~ Beret Making, ~ make an brigade of Marines by folding and cutting, ~ Make Flags, make and Colour your own flags, ~ Decorate the Mountbatten Room, make a flag to create a piece of bunting across the Mountbatten Room, with your name and age, ~ name Flags, make your name using flags for letters, ~ Make a Snake, make and decorate a snake to hang from the ceiling that spins around. Face painting -all visitors will be able to get their face painted for £2.00 per face.

Gift aided or any promotional passes are not applicable to ticketed event days. 

On line tickets can be bought up until 28th May.  Telephone and  Museum Box Office Tickets can be purchased right up until Wed 29th May.  Alternatively tickets can be purchased on the day of the event. 

Vehicles and helicopter are subject to operational commitments and may be withdrawn at any time.

BBC Antiques Roadshow

6 June 9.30am-4.30pm

BBC ONE’s ever popular Sunday evening programme ANTIQUES ROADSHOW will be filming for its 36th series at the Royal Marines Museum, Southsea, on Thursday, 6th June, 2013. The doors open at 9.30 am and close at 4.30pm. Entry to the show is free plus FREE admission to the Museum.

FREE transport from the D Day Museum to the Royal Marines Museum will be provided by CPPTD buses.

Buses will arrive at D Day Museum for approx. 0830

Free services will start from D Day at approximately 0900 and will run an intensive service until 11.00.

30 Minute service from 11.00 – 1500 then intensive service until 1730

Buses will be timed to avoid the Minutes Silence at the D Day Memorial Service at Canoe Lake Memorial

30 minute service after 1730 until around 1900

Morning buses will not be parked at RMM but wait at D Day museum for loading

Afternoon buses after 1500 buses will wait at RMM for loading and return from D Day as soon as unloaded.

Pompey Para's Parade 2013

Starts at 10am

The Parade will take place in front of the Royal Marines Museum facing the garden of remembrance, honouring those Marines who gave their lives in the Falklands Campaign, where of course many of the Regiment also made the ultimate sacrifice. 

It is hoped that they have enough veterans to be able to have two guards. Lead by the Standards of all the branches represented.

Summer Holiday Family Activities

Family Fun & Open Wednesdays with the Curators Wed 24 July to Mon 2 Sept

11am and 2pm Monday to Friday throughout the Summer holidays (excludes Bank Holidays)

Commando Family Action: A different theme each day -  It may be fitness, it may be rescuing the crew of a merchant ship or it may be the Royal Naval Field Gun challenge.

Monday: Special Forces. Tuesday: Commando Fit. Wednesday: Behind Enemy Lines. Thursday: Field Gun. Friday: Pirates! Activities run in all weather conditions. Suitable for 4-14 year olds. Normal Museum admission applies.

New for 2013 ‘Open Wednesdays with the Curators’ (Wed 24 & 31 July; Wed 7, 14, 21, 28 August) - Your chance to research your Naval and Military Ancestors. Our team of Curators and Archivists will be on hand to answer individual enquiries where possible. No need to prebook. 10am-5pm

Royal Marines Association Concert Band

Concert starts 7:30pm

The Royal Marines Museum is delighted to welcome back the Royal Marines Association Concert Band for their second concert of the year at the Royal Marines Museum in 2013.

The Royal Marines Association Concert Band (RMACB) was formed in May 2006 with the approval of the Commandant General Royal Marines and Principal Director of Music. Many of the band members are former Royal Marines musicians who have settled in the Portsmouth/Hampshire area after completing their service.

October Half Term Activities

Special Agents & Open Wednesdays with the Curators Mon 28 October to Fri 1 Nov

Hands-on family activites during the October half term.

Special Agents: ‘Manhunt’ (11am) & ‘Bomb Diffusing’(2pm) Monday to Friday.

Activities run in all weather conditions. Aimed at 4-14 year olds. Normal Museum admission applies.
