Learn about the Marine's beginnings...Learn about the Marine's beginnings...This exhibition area highlights the earliest days of the Royal Marines, and their beginnings in a regiment formed in 1664. Not yet known as Marines, the regiment was known as the Duke of York and Albany's Maritime Regiment of Foot. Undergoing several name changes over the next few years, the title Marines was first used in 1672 after the Battle of Solebay.

Through exhibition panels, models and life-size models, this display provides visitors with an involving way of appreciating the considerable heritage of the Royal Marines.
