The Victorian Age
See how the Royal Marines helped the nation reach the very pinnacle of its Empire...

The breadth of involvement the Royal Marines had in forging Britain's Empire during the Victorian Era cannot be understated, and this display highlights the many demands placed on them throughout the era and across the globe.
With barrack room conditions for visitors to try (experience a 19th century Royal Marine sleeping experience!), and details of their living conditions vividly outlined, the display then goes on to highlight their involvement in such conflicts as the China Wars (1840-1900), the Crimea (1854-56) and the Ashanti War (1873-1874). Period photographs bring home the many tasks the Royal Marines were involved in, and numerous period exhibits show the international breadth of their work.
