From there, the display highlights aspects of German propaganda and the convoy system before discussing the Marens ( a nickname of members of the Womens Royal Naval Service serving with the Royal Marines) and the birth of the Green Beret with the development of the Royal Marines Commando.


Interactive displays allow visitors to browse through a digital archive of material on the Royal Marine Commandos, whilst further displays highlight key Royal Marine campaigns, such as Crete, Italy and Yugoslavia.
The impact of being a Prisoner of War in Europe and the role of the Royal Marines at D-Day (including a film on the campaign) are also presented to visitors - as are the daring exploits of the Royal Marines involved in Operation Frankton, best known as the "Cockleshell Heroes". Combined with the range of exhibits on show, ranging from intelligence paperwork, one man submersibles, captured German medals and even Molten Glass from Hiroshima, the display leads you into discovering more about conflict in the Far East and jungle warfare...
