The breadth of the Museum's exhibits is breathtaking...The breadth of the Museum's exhibits is breathtaking...The Museum strives to collect objects which can help tell the story of the Royal Marines, and the artefact collection relates to all aspects of Royal Marine Life.

The collection is diverse encompassing ceremonial objects such as medals, uniforms and trophies, as well as everyday items such as weapons and equipment.

The artefact collection consists of historic and contemporary objects. With reference to the uniform collection, one of the oldest objects is a fur Grenadier cap c.1765, and the most modern is a combat jacket worn in Iraq.
The Museum’s medal collection contains over 8,000 medals, with the majority on display in the medal room. The Museum holds all ten of the Victoria Crosses awarded to the Royal Marines in its collections.
The Museum cannot possibly display all the artefacts in the collection. The reserve collection is used not only by the Museum when creating or updating displays, but is there to facilitate research and enquiries. Requests to view the reserve collection can be made.
