Legend has it that the opulent former officers' dining room owes its grandeur to the slip of a clerk's pen in 1869. Allegedly, the mistaken addition of an extra nought to the original budget made possible the extravagant expense of intricate gold leaf ceilings, splendid Italian marble fireplace and massively complex chandeliers which still grace this room today.

Restored to its former glory, the Mountbatten Room houses treasures and memorabilia drawn from the life and times of the Royal Marines.

The room provides an ideal setting where the traditional elegance of a Royal Marine Officers' dining room blends with the modern facilities necessary for today's business and social events. Whether the requirement is for a product launch or exhibition, banquet, dance, conference or reception, the skill and knowledge of our events staff, combined with such modern conveniences as WiFi, means every occasion is designed especially to meet that client's individual needs.

Many of the great events and dramas in the history of the Royal Marines are commemorated by the collection of over 8,000 medals - including all 10 Victoria Crosses ever awarded to Royal Marines - displayed in the former Billiard Room.

The highly atmospheric Medal Room provides a unique area for receptions, formal dinners and meetings. The Museum's stone balustrade balcony is accessible from this room and affords an unrivalled westerly view of the Museum's impressive gardens against a backdrop of the glistening Solent and Isle of Wight beyond.

At the top of the grand staircase is the original Minstrels' Gallery, also known as the Picture & Silver Gallery, where Royal Marines musicians entertained the Officers dining below. With walls covered in rich, red baize and adorned with fine portraits, this intimate Gallery is eminently suitable for gracious dinners.

Entertain in flickering candlelight, reflected in the gleaming displays of silver and polished wood furnishings.
