on Monday, 23 May 2011. Posted in Press Details

Sunday 5th June 10am to 5pm the Royal Marines Museum will host a free event in the grounds of the Museum called ‘Meet the Marines’. This event will give the public the opportunity to meet the Royal Marines Commando Display team who are trained specialists in unarmed combat, helicopter and building abseils, high aerial slides and qualified supervisors of a hi tech rock climbing tower simulators.

The Royal Marines Commando Display team will be running multiple demonstrations during the day of both unarmed combat and zip wire displays. There will also be activities for all the family including Commando Fit, where kids young and old can test out their fitness on our assault course, Royal Marines uniforms to try on and craft activities taking place throughout the day. There’s no better way to spend the last day of half term.

For over three centuries the Royal Marines have displayed heroism, daring and professionalism in combat, and now it’s your chance to see them in action for one day only at the Royal Marines Museum.

The Royal Marines Museum will be open to visitors to allow them to explore the fascinating history of the Royal Marines. Visitors can take a walk through history from 1664 and learn about the lives of the extraordinary people who have become Royal Marines. Follow a recruit through training and on to deployment around the world, then creep through the jungle, marvel at the medal collection and take a trip down memory lane in our WW2 home front kitchen. Although the event is free, normal admission prices apply to visit the museum.
