Museum Archive wins Lottery Support

The Royal Marines Museum has been awarded £50,000 by the Heritage Lottery Fund

The new archive system will allow visitors easy access to the Museum’s extensive archive and transform the ability for people to research their Royal Marine ancestors.

 

The money will be used to pay for a brand new archive storage system enabling the Museum’s extensive archives to be stored in a much more effective way. Some of the items include a huge archive of Landing Craft plans numbering over 4,000 items alone.

Precious sword bought

The Royal Marines Museum in Portsmouth has acquired an important presentation sword 200 years after the Battle it commemorates. The steel sword was presented to Captain Robert Torrens following the Battle for Anholt on 27th March 1811. Thanks to a major grant from the Art Fund, the rare item was bought at auction and has gone on display in time for the Battle’s 200th anniversary.
