On 23 April 2017 we will be having a team of eight Royal Marines from the Royal Marines Running Association are taking part in the London Marathon in aid of the SeaMore Appeal, a major project by the National Museum of the Royal Navy for a new Royal Marines Museum and Centre for Discovery.
SeaMore will create the country’s newest national collection at the National Museum of the Royal Navy in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, with learning and education at its heart. Public access to naval heritage will be transformed as key artefacts from five museums across the National Museum will be brought together in a world class and innovative Centre for Discovery. As an integral part of the project, and interlinked to the Centre for Discovery, a new Royal Marines Museum also located in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard will broaden the massive appeal of the Royal Marines story to visitors at the heart of naval heritage.
Paul Elgood at the National Museum of the Royal Navy, said: “We are delighted to be working with runners from the Royal Marines for this London Marathon in support of our SeaMore Appeal.
“This will raise funds for the National Museum of the Royal Navy's new Centre for Discovery and Royal Marines Museum to help transform public access to the unique naval heritage held in our collections.
“It's great to have the runners from the Royal Marines take on the London Marathon and to lead the way for this fantastic project. Good luck to the runners”
